Looking for a particular historic romance?

A few years ago my mom, aunt & I read a historic romance that we loved. It was so funny and hot. Unfortunately, in our "idiocy" we didn't keep the book or remember the title or author. All I can specifially remember about the book is it was set mainly on the ocean and instead of cussing they said "God's balls" and "God's nightgown". If anyone can point me in the right direction to find this book or tell me the author or title it would sooo appreciated. Thank you.

If no one comes up with the correct answer here, post your query to 'Romantic Times' magazine. They have a column made especially for your type of question. Good luck.

Try Diana Gabaldon. she writes funny historical romance novels.

The Outlander series historical, bodice ripping pleasure.

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question. But I can assure you the "Outlander" saga does not primarily take place on the ocean and I can not recall a single character ever saying "God's nightgown."

When Jamie Fraser cusses, he uses big boy words. And his wife, Claire, swears like a sailor.

They're a fantastic series of books, and I'd recommend them to anyone who can handle adult content, but I don't think they're the series you're looking for.

Where can I get some really nice pajamas for my teenage daughters?

I asked a question about what their rooms (which I have permission from them to design for a birthday present) and I thought it would be a great idea to get them each a new set of pajamas to fold on their beds! I kind of want to get nightgowns, but it doesn't matter. What is a good store to buy pajamas at for teenagers?

Is it appropriate to give a bride lingerie at her shower?

I wouldn't give anything tacky, like crotchless panties of course. But what about a cute cami and short set, or a silky nightgown?

silky nightgown or robe would be nice. a good way to know if it's appropriate would be if she would be comfortable wearing it in front of house guests. you can find a sexy silky cami or robe to wear over something even sexier (that you would not buy of course.)

No. This is something she ought to pick out for herself. She knows her/his tastes far better than you. Stick to something a little safer.

yeah she'll get a kick out of it lol

If you have any respect for the groom---YESSS!!!--give her lingerie.

I think you're on the right mindset.

Sure! Especially if there is no 'theme' for the shower. The cami and short set would be really nice, she could use them as pajamas or just as lounge wear.

Yes. It's okay.

it depends on how close you are to the person,if you are a friend,it's o.k.if you are an acquaintance, then no.

It depends on the group of people, I suppose. I find that most Bridal Showers are more tame - gifts that are for the bride and groom, or very tame.

The bachelorette party is a great place for lingerie and romantic gifts.

My rule is - if the bride's mother is going to be at the shower, then give something nice.

If you help her try it on

hell yeah its perfectly appropriate i mean i dont care its coming off any ways

I've seen it done many times.

I have a real conservative Christian family and I was surprised to get tons of lingerie, lube, massage oils from alot of my seemingly uber-religious relatives. For a bridal shower, it's totally appropriate. It's pretty much expected (and appreciated :), but I never would've expected it from them. My friend who's catholic also got tons of naughty swag from her conservative friends & relatives, so personally I'd say it's safe to give lingerie at a bridal shower.

There was a line in a movie.."stella, that nightgown is very flammable" what is the movei?

From an old movie about one mean sister and one weak sister...mean sister was approaching weak sister with a lighted match threatening to set fire to her nightgown

Wouldn't be "A Streetcar Named Desire" by any chance...

Actually I just found out that the movie is most likely "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080120061213AAGpisT&kid=FpcuWzHoVTVWxAhq24T54WeglLGicLts3K3gfRbDxQ.FxEKEkRtR&s=comm&date=2008-02-19+16%3A57%3A31&.crumb=

I would have guessed "Streetcar" too, because of the name Stella, but your description sounds more "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

What is in your attic that you can't bring yourself to throw away?

Why do you keep it?

Mine is an old Lana Turner style penoir and nightgown set from the middle of an earlier century. I keep it because they don't make them like that any more, and I might need it again some day!

Boxes of STUFF that my kids and grandkids made. Why is it that most of that stuff cost very little to make, has no resale value, is not even useful sometimes, but for some reason you just can't part with it? My kids say "MOM JUST THROW THAT STUFF OUT"! I tell them just wait! Some day you will you understand.....lol..Most of keep STUFF just because.....It might be useful again...we will get it fixed...you never know when it might come in handy...etc..and why does it seem that as soon as you get rid of something that you thought was useless or junk you suddenly find a use for it or wished you had kept it!..lol. When I was a child it seemed like the attic in my grandparents house held so many "treasures" that would make all the toy stores seem pale by comparison.!

Many things I cannot throw away. But to name one in particular it would be an old lamp we had at home when I was growing up. I move it arouind and dust the shade but cannot bear to part with it. That is only one of several items lol.

A bunch of bats and I keep them because if I threw THEM out there wouldn't be ANYTHING upstairs...

Seriously

A fishing rod passed on to me by my Grandad.

I keep it because it reminds me of some really good times spent fishing with him and my Nanny

Old wooden puzzles from the fifties and board games.

My ex husband.....lol

Boxes of old photographs that were my grandmothers. Most of them are black and white and would have been taken with one of the old Brownie cameras. None of them are dated and I don't know who most of the people are in them, but throwing them away feels like throwing away part of history.

I always said I would never be like that with any pictures I took and each and everyone is dated with the names of those in the picture plus where the picture was taken and the occasion.

Grammar school pictures, 35 year old report cards and decorations made by my children. I keep them because when they gave them to me I always thought how special they were. Now they are more than special, they are precious.

Christmas ornaments my children made for me when they were little.

Not in my attic, but in my basement and bedroom. I saved every paper my daughter ever brought home from school. I can't bear to part with them! She's going to be 28 years old, so you know I've had them for a LONG TIME!! I also have all the notes she wrote to me when she was little. Some of them I carry in my wallet, although they are pretty well tattered, they touch my heart every time I look at them.

I also have a boxful of letters and notes my husband wrote to me while we were dating and we've been married for almost 34 years.

The art work of my son and the prom dress I wore in high school. my husband uniform and metals from when he was in the air force

I have a beautiful set of silk sheets bought for the honeymoon. Never used them since because they slide off the bed and cause clammy, sweaty. A 1969 tunic shirt, a buckskin jacket with the fringe on it. A bell signed and presented by the Mayor of Philadelphia while traveling with the Holiday Inn Messengers in the 60's. A cheap slick surface Indian picture( huge) given to me by my son for Christmas when he 11 .Metal roller skates with the key.

A huge black bag (or two) stuffed with Teddy Ruxpin and tapes, Fieival Mouse, Country Bear, Wuzzles, Poppins and Cabbage patch. That same 26 yr old son wants to keep them. Go Figure?

This is a great question! have a star!

I have nothing in the attic. My Kids, niece and nephew helped me clean it out, they took what they wanted, what was left went to The Salvation Army.

What should I wear to bed: red nightie, pink pj set, or a nightgown?

I crossdress and am so excited that I can sleep in something feminine tonight, but dont know what I should wear. I have a red nightie, a pink pj with a cami or a nightgown that is below the knee.

well i wouldnt pick the nightgown.. too granny

go for the pj's with the cami because its more of what girls wear to bed when they are not sleeping with a significant other... the nightie is for that

pink pj. trust me, you will look cute. do tell me if u have a blog! POST YOUR PICS! :)

if you want to feel girly/flirty wear the cami pjs, if you want to feel sexy wear the red nightie. sleep tight :)

Why does it matter?

go for the pj's with the cami because its more of what girls wear to bed when they are not sleeping with a significant other... the nightie is for that

pink pj. trust me, you will look cute. do tell me if u have a blog! POST YOUR PICS! :)

if you want to feel girly/flirty wear the cami pjs, if you want to feel sexy wear the red nightie. sleep tight :)

Why does it matter?

How is fashion important to world history?

I am doing a project on ancient Asian fashions. We have to include how fashion is important to world history and how it affected world history. Any other information on fashion and how it changed in ancient Asia ( 1000 BCE to 1600 ACE) would also be helpful. (This is a high school class.) Thank you!

It's relatively unimportant to history. However, since you have to pretend that it is, just discuss the differences between classes' clothing, the difference of religious leaders clothing, and the changes seen in mens clothing versus women's clothing. Research various cultures, and maybe you point out unique clothing like in Korea they have the traditional han bok for various customs.

Well I think fashion is very important because it describes you. It shows people who you are. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081028144935AAv52fR&kid=JZxWLEv1DzWuNlu81H.k&s=comm&date=2008-12-11+13%3A41%3A40&.crumb=

Fashion in history is important because certain clothes mean different things. From Roman times to acient Egypt to modern day even!!! Fashoin is used to establish social class, royalty, and so on. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20081028144935AAv52fR&kid=IqdkDGH6DXI091ECtbWu&s=comm&date=2009-01-06+10%3A33%3A10&.crumb=

Hmmm...how fashion affects world history is hard to explain, but it's better to think about it as how social history is reflected through fashion.

Think of it as this way. When I did a project on Victorian era fashion, I included the social history part by introducing the social classes and explained how each class dressed and behaved. Then I went on with what they (men, women, and children) wore throughout Queen Victoria's reign.

You can learn from world history, about what the civilisations thought of different things at the time. You can also find out what the different classes thought were attractive and their mindset on certain issues. It affected world history because people judged people. If you weren't fashionable at the time, people would not like you as much. Also it accepts people into ceratin groups in society.

Views on people and how we use appearences to differenciate authoritive figures etc from one another and other people using stereotypical views. However through history as time has past and social views have changed these distinctive borders and distorted due to the fact that the world interchanges its appearances with different mediums of fashion, apart from the Queen attending a royal conference etc, what would she wear and how would that divide her from the rest?...it doesnt because anyone can now wear a suit or jeans or hoodys and although we still have stereotypical views based on clothes the whole concept has become disullusioned through time because of the change in social views etc

fashion is very important in history because some of the most historic people looked at fashion like a different world for them. fashion explains people, and tells about them. 4 some people, fashion is the only thing that they can make thier own.but for some people, fashion is important to history, for some people it isnt, you decide

today in france alot of fashion designers are asian so they integrate asian fashions into todays stuff

How do I fix holes in cloth blinds?

We got cloth blinds and sent them to be hemmed. The hemming job wasn't good. We had to take the hem out and just cut them. Now the holes from the hem are large and look tacky. How can we fix it?

First, try to take a needle or straight pin and manually try to push the treads of the weave of the cloth closed. Poke around at it and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, you can take the cloth you cut off and try to cover it from behind. You can buy stitch witchery at the fabric store or in the fabric dept of Walmart. Stitch witchery is iron on hemming tape. You can try ironing on new cloth from behind. If you think that won't work or the cloth cannot be ironed, another option would be to buy some ribbon or fancy trim from the fabric store and hand sew it on across the holes.
