What is in your attic that you can't bring yourself to throw away?

Why do you keep it?

Mine is an old Lana Turner style penoir and nightgown set from the middle of an earlier century. I keep it because they don't make them like that any more, and I might need it again some day!

Boxes of STUFF that my kids and grandkids made. Why is it that most of that stuff cost very little to make, has no resale value, is not even useful sometimes, but for some reason you just can't part with it? My kids say "MOM JUST THROW THAT STUFF OUT"! I tell them just wait! Some day you will you understand.....lol..Most of keep STUFF just because.....It might be useful again...we will get it fixed...you never know when it might come in handy...etc..and why does it seem that as soon as you get rid of something that you thought was useless or junk you suddenly find a use for it or wished you had kept it!..lol. When I was a child it seemed like the attic in my grandparents house held so many "treasures" that would make all the toy stores seem pale by comparison.!

Many things I cannot throw away. But to name one in particular it would be an old lamp we had at home when I was growing up. I move it arouind and dust the shade but cannot bear to part with it. That is only one of several items lol.

A bunch of bats and I keep them because if I threw THEM out there wouldn't be ANYTHING upstairs...

Seriously

A fishing rod passed on to me by my Grandad.

I keep it because it reminds me of some really good times spent fishing with him and my Nanny

Old wooden puzzles from the fifties and board games.

My ex husband.....lol

Boxes of old photographs that were my grandmothers. Most of them are black and white and would have been taken with one of the old Brownie cameras. None of them are dated and I don't know who most of the people are in them, but throwing them away feels like throwing away part of history.

I always said I would never be like that with any pictures I took and each and everyone is dated with the names of those in the picture plus where the picture was taken and the occasion.

Grammar school pictures, 35 year old report cards and decorations made by my children. I keep them because when they gave them to me I always thought how special they were. Now they are more than special, they are precious.

Christmas ornaments my children made for me when they were little.

Not in my attic, but in my basement and bedroom. I saved every paper my daughter ever brought home from school. I can't bear to part with them! She's going to be 28 years old, so you know I've had them for a LONG TIME!! I also have all the notes she wrote to me when she was little. Some of them I carry in my wallet, although they are pretty well tattered, they touch my heart every time I look at them.

I also have a boxful of letters and notes my husband wrote to me while we were dating and we've been married for almost 34 years.

The art work of my son and the prom dress I wore in high school. my husband uniform and metals from when he was in the air force

I have a beautiful set of silk sheets bought for the honeymoon. Never used them since because they slide off the bed and cause clammy, sweaty. A 1969 tunic shirt, a buckskin jacket with the fringe on it. A bell signed and presented by the Mayor of Philadelphia while traveling with the Holiday Inn Messengers in the 60's. A cheap slick surface Indian picture( huge) given to me by my son for Christmas when he 11 .Metal roller skates with the key.

A huge black bag (or two) stuffed with Teddy Ruxpin and tapes, Fieival Mouse, Country Bear, Wuzzles, Poppins and Cabbage patch. That same 26 yr old son wants to keep them. Go Figure?

This is a great question! have a star!

Juju

I have nothing in the attic. My Kids, niece and nephew helped me clean it out, they took what they wanted, what was left went to The Salvation Army.

classic speakers like the Bose 301 Series 1, the Boston Acoustics 100, EPI 100... I mean, I have plenty of speakers but just can't seem to let those sweeties go

I actually have an original Dale Evans cow girl outfit. I was thrilled to get it for my birthday one year and still remember how much fun I had playing in it.

We have lots of clothes and toys. We keep it because we are too lazy to donate.. I keep the clothes because sometimes I'll rummage through them and find a shirt I'll start to wear now but not back then. There is lots of other random things too, but until we run out of space we will keep on piling!

Some clothes that I hope to wear, if not this summer, next summer, or maybe the summer after that, or the next one. See what I mean?
